Edinburgh is alive with history and culture and is home to fascinating tourist destinations. With an enviable location in the heart of the Scottish capital - let Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian be your starting point as you create extraordinary memories of your own in this iconic city.
Edinburgh Zoo is the largest and most exciting wildlife attraction in Scotland, committed to the highest standards of animal welfare, conservation and environmental education.
In just one day, meet over 1,000 wonderful animals in beautiful parkland setting on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Comprising 70 acres of stunning scenery, just a stone's throw from the city centre, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) captures the imagination of everyone who visits, from the knowledgeable gardener to the curious sightseer.
Reflecting the international research and conservation work of RBGE, the Garden is home to the largest collection of wild-origin Chinese plants outside China. See, too, the Scottish Heath Garden, recreating the plantings and landscape of the Scottish highlands and the world-famous Rock Garden, which is home to over 5,000 alpine plants and the stunning 165m-long Herbaceous Border.
Edinburgh, like Rome, is built on seven hills. Calton Hill offers the most spectacular views of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside, particularly if you climb to the top of the Nelson Monument, a replica in stone of Nelson’s telescope. This is one of many fascinating buildings on Calton Hill. The Political Martyrs Monument and the Observatory are both located here.
Perhaps the most unusual of the monuments on Calton Hill is the unfinished Acropolis, which was designed to commemorate the Scots who died in the Napoleonic Wars and is the National Monument of Scotland. Interestingly enough, the monument was never completed owing to insufficient funding.
